FLOWERING

MONTHS OF THE YEAR

our major groupings of plants are in flower

ROSE GARDENS

Roses are typically in flower from October to May. The roses are fully pruned in July.

The garden has a collection of about 770 roses, including approximately 80 different varieties/cultivars of David Austins, Floribundas, Hybrid Teas and carpet roses.

DAVID AUSTINS are a favourite within the garden. They are an English Rose bred by David Austin in Shropshire, England, and famed for their many petalled blooms & fragrance. He combined the old garden roses, such as the gallicas, damasks and albas with the repeat flowering ability and wide colour range of modern roses such as hybrid teas and floribundas. Their first commercially available rose was introduced in 1961, and since they have released over 200 cultivars.

TROPICAL GARDEN

The hibiscus & haliconias are summer/autumn flowering plants, therefore are in full bloom between February and May.

PERENNIAL & HERB GARDENS

Perennials are their most abundant in Spring, but also flower with deadheading into summer & autumn. Therefore, September through to April there are blooms. They are fully pruned in winter, about July.
